Pregnant Fasting Limits

Running fasting is obligatory for Muslims but for those of you who are undergoing a pregnancy program and want to practice fasting the holy month of Ramadhon you should consult your doctor first and make sure the pregnant woman and fetus in the womb are in good health.

Of course it needs to pay attention to the limits so that fasting remains smooth.

The following are the restrictions that need to be considered for those of you who are pregnant but want to practice fasting:

At mealtime:

  • Choosing foods that contain enough protein and fat because they can last longer in the digestion so that it slows down hunger during the day.
  • Eat foods that contain vitamin C to maintain endurance.
  • Drink as much water as possible to get around the lack of fluids, try to consume fruits and juices.
  • Avoid drinking tea or coffee, because both contain substances that can stimulate the body to release fluids (urinating).
  • It’s better not to eat too much. Eat a little but often because stomach resistance in pregnant women is not much due to pressure from the uterus.

When breaking:

  • Go ahead with warm and sweet drinks to increase blood sugar levels.
  • Do not eat too much immediately, eat a little but often because pregnant women feel easily due to intestinal peristalsis which slows down due to hormonal influences during pregnancy.
  • Try to consume foods with balanced nutrition so that the needs of the fetus for growth and development can be fulfilled.
